telehealth-policy-change-coming

As promised in our post titled “Watch out: Major CMS Changes on Telehealth in 2025“, we kept following up on the latest updates on this topic.

Good news to our clients: The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill extending pandemic-era telehealth flexibilities for six months beyond their current expiration date. We were not able to locate the direct reference on CMS website. So here is a semi official coverage for more details: https://www.fiercehealthcare.com/regulatory/house-extends-telehealth-six-months

This temporary measure ensures continued Medicare coverage for virtual visits, broader provider eligibility, and relaxed rules for cross-state licensing and telehealth in rural areas. The extension aims to prevent a lapse in access while Congress works on a long-term solution, as stakeholders push for permanent telehealth reforms to maintain widespread care accessibility post-pandemic.

The extension, attached to a larger legislative package, acts as a stopgap to avoid disrupting care for millions relying on telehealth. Providers and patient advocates welcomed the move but emphasized the need for lasting policies to address uncertainty. The Senate must now approve the bill, with pressure mounting to finalize bipartisan agreements on reimbursement parity, licensing, and technology standards. This interim step underscores telehealth’s critical role in modern healthcare and the urgency for Congress to cement its future.
